A MORNING COFFEE CATCH-UP

A MORNING COFFEE CATCH-UP

Every other end of the work week, I update this MORNING COFFEE Spotify playlist with a different mix of 30 tunes that shuffle well with that reflective morning coffee (you know the one). And then I pair that playlist with a rundown of upcoming HWY 95EH events and recent reading material, plus sometimes some other things (and on the end of every other week, I do the same thing, except with an AFTERNOON BEER playlist).

So, downwards with your scrolling…

MORNING COFFEE | To listen, you can either press play on the embedded player above or—and probably the better option—you can jump over to Spotify and listen there (I think Spotify still lets you create a free account, but I could be wrong as I have a subscription included in my phone bill).

If you use Spotify, you'll want to press the 'follow' button on this playlist as that way you can save it for offline listening + it will automagically update every time a new batch of 30 tracks that taste right with that early morning caffeine hit get added.

PS - If you don't have a Spotify account, you can also try listening over on Soundsgood (as they give you a few more non-Spotify listening options). Alternatively, you can also tune into the 24/7 stream of ace tunes that Mountown Radio pumps out all day.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE…

EVENTS COMING UP AROUND HWY 95EH…

If you live in the Highway 95eh area (or are here visiting)… why not grab your weekly planner and have a gander at some things you can do once you finish enjoying that morning cup of goodness.

AND HERE'S SOME RECENT HWY 95EH BLOG POSTS…

Because sometimes having a warm cup of day starter is a good excuse to catch up on some casual internet reading, right?

IS THAT IT?

OK, that is it. For now. Catch a similar update every MONDAY or hang tight until next FRIDAY when this update comes in the flavour of a cool afternoon bevy. But until then…

MEET A LOCAL: CHELSEA BOYD GIBSON

ON THE LATEST EDITION OF MEET A LOCAL

Chelsea Boyd Gibson—the heart, body and soul behind all things Meadowsweet (yoga! tea! photography! etc!)—metaphorically stops by the blog to introduce herself and leave behind a bunch of great tips for getting the most out of a life lived (or a visit visited) around Highway 95 eh.

WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?

My name is Chelsea Boyd Gibson and I am a Kimberley local with a gypsy spirit. After leaving Kimberley at eighteen,  I spent about eight years travelling, learning (exploring the world is great way to get an education) walking hundreds of kilometres across countries like Spain and Nepal and of course, joining a travelling carnival in Australia. I then moved back to our incredible little town here. I am fortunate enough to say I have had a pretty amazing life so far, sprinkled with tragedy and many opportunities to grow.

I was lucky enough to meet my life partner in crime Craig McIvor, aka. Mr. Meadowsweet, while working in the world of Heli-skiing, and even more lucky to have convinced him to migrate home to Kimberley with me. Once we got back, I dived into entrepreneurial mode. This was possibly the scariest thing I have ever done.

I am the owner of Meadowsweet Yoga & Wellness, as well as Meadowsweet Photography.

My job summed up in a week could include teaching Yoga, doing massage, blending herbal teas, brewing up herbal salves & deodorants, photographing a wedding, making mass batches of sauerkraut, teaching a fermentation workshop or working on my websites. That all sounds a bit ridiculous when written down and makes me smile.

There is never a dull day and I feel so immensely grateful that this jumble of passions has managed to become a career in a town like Kimberley.

WHY LIVE AROUND HIGHWAY 95 EH?

Growing up in Kimberley, now that I look back on it, was amazing. There are the reasons that everyone can list, such as the skiing and hiking and biking, etc, but to be honest, you can find that in any Kootenay town. The reason I came back to Kimberley was because of the community and the support.

When life gets tragic, because at some point it undoubtedly will, this town will be there to pick you up and set you on your feet again, all while filling your belly with good food and pointing you in the direction you need to go.

I knew if I was going to try and start my own business, there was nowhere better than Kimberley to do it.

IF SOMEONE IS ONLY IN THE AREA FOR A FEW DAYS, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST OF MUST-DO’S?

My favourite kind of summer day here would start with an early morning hike up the ski hill, with coffee in a thermos to share at the top. I would spend the afternoon making lunch with goodies straight from the garden then pack some Overtime beers in a bag and go float the canoe aimlessly on a calm lake, such as Stony or Rock lake. Finally, I'd finish with dinner on a patio in the platzl. Ahhh summer days are so good.

I’M HUNGRY… WHERE SHOULD I GO TO FIX THIS REOCCURRING PROBLEM?

Ok, has anyone had the sushi buffet on Saturdays at Kinbari lately? So good! Or grabbing a panini from Creme Cheese Shop (preferably the Gibby with extra Kraut) a Stoke Juice from Centex, with some good chocolate, and making your way out to a secret spot on the St.Mary's to dip your feet in the water and picnic in the sun.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AND YOUR TOP PLACE AROUND HERE FOR DOING THAT ACTIVITY?

Yoga! The teachers we have at Meadowsweet Yoga & Wellness right now are so wonderful. I am humbled to have these ladies on board and sharing their knowledge and love with the Meadowsweet community. Other than Yoga, I am in love with the biking, hiking and canoeing access in the area. If you have a full day to hike, make sure to get up Teepee or Fisher at some point: unbelievable views.

FINALLY… PLEASE SHARE ONE LAST KOOTENAY TIP / RECOMMENDATION / THOUGHT / WHATEVER THAT YOU DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO GET IN DURING THE PREVIOUS QUESTIONS.

Find somewhere to sit quietly in nature. No noise, no light, no distractions.

OK, ACTUAL FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / LISTENING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / READING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Get your hands dirty, grow a garden, play with your food, learn to ferment, don't think about things too much, do Yoga, learn to laugh at yourself, especially when you fall (try not to laugh at others though, they don't like this).

Alright, that's it for another MEET A LOCAL. Before you head off to some other corner of the internet, make sure to check out Meadowsweet Yoga & Wellness on the Facebook and Meadowsweet Photography on the Facebook… and the Meadowsweet combo on the Instagram.

If you’re not quite ready to exit HWY 95EH, why not glean a bit more local knowledge from a few more people what live here…

Or maybe you're a local yourself and you'd like to pass on some of your own hard earned local knowledge? Or maybe you'd just like to put some Mountown Radio in your ears before you jump back into your day?

Whatever you're reason for staying a little longer, just don't forget to also connect with 95EH elsewhere on the interweb before you go, as that way you'll be the first to know whenever something excellent—like the Q&A above—gets posted.
