It's time for another edition of MEET A LOCAL: the reoccurring Q&A where a Kimberely-er (Kimberley-ian? Kimberley-ite? Not sure the proper term) stops by the blog to say "hello" and drop off a few tips for living/visiting this lovely little mountain town called Kimberley.
This time around we're joined by Natalie Johnson, a born and bred Kimberley gal who you'll probably run into up on the hill this winter if you haven't run into her already. Scroll downwards for an internet introduction + a bunch of great tips for Kimberley living from a Kimberley lifer…
WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?
Kimberley is the best place on earth to live and raise my family. Here I am surrounded by a great community, my extended family and all my favourite mountains.
IF SOMEONE IS ONLY IN TOWN FOR A FEW DAYS, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST OF MUST-DO’S?
Hike or ski the hill and take in the 180 degree view. Take the kiddo's to the Spirit Rock Climbing Gym. Explore the Lois Creek trails (we call it the "Bear Bush" just for fun). Check out Healing Hollow in the Platzl and while your there browse all the great shops.
I’M HUNGRY… WHERE SHOULD I GO TO FIX THIS REOCCURRING PROBLEM?
Bears Eatery is a favourite of my kids. Homemade comfort diner food is our "go to" when not at home. Grubstake Pizza is a regular take-out treat and when I'm out for an evening, The Sullivan Pub is where you can find me.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AND YOUR TOP PLACE AROUND HERE FOR DOING THAT ACTIVITY?
I'm a skier and a Winter lover. Can't wait till it snows! The Kimberley Alpine Resort is such a great ski hill for all ages and levels. We also spend a fair bit of time at the local arena's with Kimberley Minor Hockey and taking in the Kimberley Dynamiters games. Winter is my Family's favourite season because there is so much to do!
FINALLY… PLEASE SHARE ONE LAST KIMBERLEY TIP / RECOMMENDATION / THOUGHT / WHATEVER THAT YOU DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO GET IN DURING THE PREVIOUS QUESTIONS.
I recently had the opportunity to take a helicopter sight seeking tour of Fisher Peak through "Eclipse Helicopters". It was incredible and I recommend it to anyone interested in getting a different perspective of those peaks. It's a must do!
OK, ACTUAL FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / LISTENING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / READING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
"when you're lucky enough to live in the mountains, you're lucky enough"
I don't know who wrote that but it's completely true. Living and working here is a gift. If you're having a crap day, go outside and look around. We are truly living in one of the most beautiful little places in the world. I'm not perfect and have to remind myself of this too regularly, but I also know that there is no better cure for a bad mood than a breath of pure mountain air.
Welp, that's it for another MEET A LOCAL. Next time your up at Kimberley Alpine Resort or Trickle Creek Lodge make sure to give Natalie a friendly head nod and hopefully I'll have another one of these Local Q&A's up in the not too distant future (so please get in touch if you'd be interested in doing one).
