It's time for another MEET A LOCAL with another Kimberely-ite (Kimberley-ian? Kimberley-er? Still not sure the proper term).

This time around it's local fashion designer Chloe Smith from Lily Of The Mountains stopping by the blog to give some tips on making the most of your next Kimberley stop over. But before you scroll any further, go follow Chloe on Instagram & like on Facebook. Done that? Ok, scroll on…

WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?

My name is Chloe, I started a small sewing business that does handmade clothing as well as custom orders and alterations called Lily of the Mountains.

WHY KIMBERLEY?

Kimberley is a wonderful place to reside, after growing up here I did the classic "leave" after high school to travel and live elsewhere, realizing what an amazing little community Kimberley is and unlike anywhere else. A nursing job brought me back originally and my spark of love for this town was reignited. Our backyard is a playground for biking, snowboarding, hiking and many more activities others in cities travel to get to, or pay big money for. The people are friendly, the young families are abundant and the seniors of this town are knowledgable and truly enjoy where they live. It's amazing to be a part of.

IF SOMEONE IS ONLY IN TOWN FOR A FEW DAYS, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST OF MUST-DO’S?

Hard to say as there is a surplus depending on ones taste. Golfing has a plethora of options, bike trails are growing and the nature park is definitely a must see. Its been a few years but I have been meaning to ride the train… it's great fun and a good way to learn about the origin of this town and its mining history.

A RECOMMENDATION FOR BREAKFAST?

I would have to say I live at the Kimberley Centex, for amazing coffee, and grab and go breakfast wraps, sandwiches, muffins and cold pressed juice it is my go to when I am on the run to work or after a hike. Pancake Saturday has become tradition at home where we make a healthy version of pancakes to enjoy in the back yard with coffee from the local roaster of course Steam Donkey.

AND FOR LUNCH?

The Shed in town has started a lunch menu and it is phenomenal. Plus you can grab a local cold beer from our very own Overtime Brewery on tap on a sunny afternoon in the Platzl. The Creme Cheese Shop makes unreal paninis and I really enjoy calling and ordering the special without hearing what it actually is, because not only the element of surprise is fun but its guaranteed to be amazing every time. Again I am commonly noticed in Centex grabbing an amazing healthy sandwich, where they use nothing but the best produce, organic sourdough bread that is made on site from their master baker (must try), and quality butcher meat. Although my green thumb is not quite a pronounced shade of green, we do have fresh lettuce and spinach from the garden where we make homemade salads packed with colourful veggies at home.

WHAT ABOUT SUPPER?

Where to start? This little town has grown with a variety of amazing places to eat. The Heartbeet is simply amazing, whether you are vegetarian or not the skills that kitchen has will prove exceptional. The Old Baurenhaus is a classic. Wonderful food, and the heritage building that was brought over from Germany and re built is incredible. Pedal and Tap, of course is another dinner hub of the town with amazing food and a drink menu that doesn't end (in a good way). There honestly is such a good variety with consistent quality food in this town I could go on.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AND YOUR TOP PLACE AROUND HERE FOR DOING THAT ACTIVITY?

My favourite activity.... it's tricky as there is so many options, but my breath will forever be taken away as that last step is reached up any mountain. Not only accomplishment, the views and the beauty of nature overwhelm me. There is an internal drive that pulls me to that spot and it doesn't matter how many hours of gruel it takes. Every moment is worth it. A classic would be Fischer Peak in the area.

FINALLY… PLEASE SHARE ONE LAST KIMBERLEY TIP / RECOMMENDATION / THOUGHT / WHATEVER THAT YOU DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO GET IN DURING THE PREVIOUS QUESTIONS.

One last tip: Go try Meadowsweet Yoga. It is the most beautiful studio, and the owner Chelsea is a woman of incredible talent, with making her own natural herbal balms/ teas/ deodorants, to instructing an amazing yoga class, or giving you an hour massage that will leave you in the clouds for days.

OK, ACTUAL FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / LISTENING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / READING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

The only other thing I can really say, is that I am forever surprised about how much talent this town has to offer. I am still learning about new artists, or someone has started something that I had no idea they had the skill set for. After creating a little business myself and enlightening my passion, it is overwhelming to see the support of this town and just everyones enthusiasm. My advice is to change your lifestyle. Get healthy. Prove yourself, and make changes for your own being that are going to benefit you. Be kind, it will come back to you. Support your friends and be there for them in true human form. Lastly, love yourself.

Alright. There you have it. Another MEET A LOCAL with an actual local that isn't me! The plan is to do one of these at least once a week, so get in touch if you're a local and would like to do a future one.
