WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am a mother to two beautiful 2 year olds, a wife and a co-owner of Soulfood. I do a lot of the background buisness-y stuff and work out front a bit. I spent one day in the kitchen when we first opened and was terrified and haven't made it back in there!

WHY LIVE AROUND HIGHWAY 95 EH?

I grew up here and most of my family lives here. I couldn't wait to get out of Cranbrook when I graduated but over time I realized that this is the best place on earth. The winters are mild, the summers are beautiful - it's always sunny! We are near lakes and hikes any direction you choose. The exploring around here is endless.

IF SOMEONE IS ONLY IN THE AREA FOR A FEW DAYS, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST OF MUST-DO’S?

Come to Soulfood! We are friendly and have a great atmosphere and wonderful food!  I love walking or biking in the community forest and there are beautiful beaches everywhere.

I’M HUNGRY… WHERE SHOULD I GO TO FIX THIS REOCCURRING PROBLEM?

Soulfood of course! We are a farm-to-table whole foods restaurant and we focus on supporting local farmers. All of our food is either organic or local (preferably both!!) We have a unique menu that changes every 2 weeks and a huge drink menu! When I go out I eat at Hot Shots for a veggie pad thai with extra veggies. I choose the Pedal & Tap and the Bauernhaus for delicious dinners that fit with my food philosophy. Check out the Heid-Out for local beer!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AND YOUR TOP PLACE AROUND HERE FOR DOING THAT ACTIVITY?

My favourite activity is walking/hiking. I go into the community forest most often because I live nearby. I try to go to yoga (One Love Hot Yoga) at least once a week. I hang out at Soulfood even when I'm not working :)

FINALLY… PLEASE SHARE ONE LAST KOOTENAY TIP / RECOMMENDATION / THOUGHT / WHATEVER THAT YOU DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO GET IN DURING THE PREVIOUS QUESTIONS.

Bike Rails to Trails and the Wardner trail! Oh and Elizabeth Lake! My kids love walking around there because there are so many birds.

OK, ACTUAL FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / LISTENING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / READING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

It sounds cliche from someone who owns an organic restaurant... but be grateful, count your blessings and choose happiness! Surround yourself with happy people, look for the happy moment every day. Remember how lucky we are and how short life is. Just switching my mindset to an attitude of gratitude changed my whole life...

Alright, that's it for another MEET A LOCAL. Before you head off to some other corner of the internet, make sure to follow/like Soulfood on the Facebook and Instagram and Twitter AND if you're looking for a little extra enticement to go with Soulfood's amazing menu… check out some of their upcoming live music / events.

If you’d like to stick around HWY 95EH a little longer, why not glean a some extra local knowledge from a few more locals…

…or maybe you're a local yourself and you'd like to pass on some of your own hard earned local knowledge? Or maybe you'd just like to put some Mountown Radio in your ears before you jump back into your day?

Whatever the reason for sticking around, just don't forget to also connect with 95EH elsewhere on the interweb before you go, as that way you'll be the first to know whenever something excellent—like the Q&A above—gets posted.
