Creature Crafting

Creature Crafting

Kimberley Public Library (map)

“Creature Crafting is a very hands-on program, incorporating fun dress-up and crafting with the goal of ‘getting under the skin’ of macro invertebrates that live in streams. Macro invertebrates are organisms without backbones, visible to the eye without a microscope. Up close, they are also quite exotic, ranging from quirky to funny, creepy to beautiful.

Since they are pretty small in real life, tiny features become a lot more interesting by dressing up in human size. Then with clay and other materials, everyone will create their own version to take home.

We will also be having a look at some of these critters from local creeks, alive in water, through magnifying glasses. Fun for all, especially the kiddos!”

Zen Cowboy comes to One Love Kimberley

One Love Hot Yoga Kimberley (map)

“Saturday June 3rd 9:30am- 11:00am Superflow class // Greg Long aka Zen Cowboy will be replacing the hot sequence with a Superflow class. Superflow is a super fun style of yoga and movement designed to go outside the confines of the traditional linear movement patterns of yoga. Designed originally for the purposes of opening the body for surf and working in harmony with the natural rhythms of nature. Eoin Finn of Blissology created this practice to produce a deep functional opening of the body, as well as stimulate fluid and powerful movement patterns which will augment any physical pursuit. Use your current pass. $16 drop in, $13 student drop in

Sunday, June 4th 11am-1pm Inversions 101 // Greg Long and This workshop is designed to explore the hows and whys of going upside down. The honest truth is that advancing to the level of consistent safe and sustainable inversions, requires a lot of foundational work to develop strength, stability, balance and technique. In this workshop we will work to introduce the technique of various arm balances and inversion postures and sequences, as well as visit some integral movements which will serve to move further in this direction for the beginner, novice and advanced practitioner alike. $20 for the first 10 people registered , $30 for the last 10. Register at the studio or email kristi@onelovehotyoga.ca. Payment required for complete registration.”

The Lonely @ Key City Theatre

The Lonely @ Key City Theatre

Key City Theatre (map)

“Now includes hits of The Traveling Wilburys. The BIG O was unmistakable with his trademark sunglasses, his distinctive, powerful voice, his complex compositions and the dark emotional ballads we all love. From 1960 to ’64 Roy Orbison landed 22 songs on the Billboard Top 40, including “Only The Lonely”, “Crying”, and “Oh, Pretty Woman”. His impassioned voice, bridging the gap between baritone and tenor, coupled with his signature arrangements ensured the charting of the hits “Dream Baby”, “Ooby Dooby”, “Blue Angel”, “Blue Bayou”, “You Got It” and “In Dreams”. Tragically, his life was cut short, leaving us only the music.

And, long may the music live! THE LONELY delivers a sensitive and dynamic tribute to the one and only Roy Orbison. Veteran Mike Demers leads this group of musical journeymen in their mutual and deep appreciation of the timeless music of the Caruso of Rock. THE LONELY - CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF ROY ORBISON approaches the music with a humble spirit and sincere desire to recreate the sounds and feel of the original recordings. The band has been selling out shows right from their debut. Tina Coldwell of TLC Entertainment says, “One of the best tributes I’ve seen and I’ve been in the biz for 22 years.” Be there or be square!

Soulfood (map)

“Tara Holloway’s voice can stop you dead in your tracks. It’s a towering instrument: raw and soulfully weathered, yet capable of precise runs and pitch-perfect delicacy. Her singing is at the centre of her new album, Little Ghosts, due out Spring 2015 through Light Organ Records.

“I’m obsessed with singing,” the vocalist explains. “That’s my favourite thing to do. I love songwriting and guitar playing, and I really enjoy being on stage, but it’s the singing that got me into this.”

Little Ghosts is the culmination of years of dedicated touring and creative growth. In the past decade, the Ottawa-based songwriter has spent time living in Lake Louise, Toronto, Vancouver and Los Angeles, with her guitar acting as her constant companion. Holloway’s debut album, 2010’s Sins to Confess, was pieced together from five years’ worth of scattered studio sessions across the continent. That album’s diverse, bluesy sound caught the ear of Light Organ Records, and the label signed Holloway and reissued Sins to Confess in 2012.

Join Tara Holloway & Sammi Morelli for an evening of lovely music, food and beverages at Soulfood, a peaceful, welcoming and beautiful space.”
