KEVIN DUNNEBACKE | MEET A LOCAL… CANDIDATE
POSTMARK: OCTOBER 2018
On October 20th, 2018 Kimberley will be hitting the polls (voting polls, not ski poles) to select their Mayor, City Councillors, and School Trustees. So before it’s time to cast your ballot—and before the upcoming All Candidates Forums for City Council on Oct 15 and Mayoral & School Trustees on Oct 16—how about we “MEET A LOCAL” these local candidates?
And on that note: City Council candidate Kevin Dunnebacke metaphorically stops by the blog today to say "hey" and leave behind some tips for getting the most out of a life lived (or a visit visited) around Highway 95 eh.
WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?
My name is Kevin Dunnebacke I own and operate Ktown Custom Auto.
WHY LIVE AROUND HIGHWAY 95 EH?
Kimberley is the raddest city ever.
IF SOMEONE IS ONLY IN THE AREA FOR A FEW DAYS, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST OF MUST-DO’S?
Depends. If it’s winter, shred the hill or check out our cross country trails. Rent a fat bike and go for a rip or snow shoeing in the nature park.
If it’s summer, check out our trail system; super rad. If it’s roasting hot, check out the mine tour; there is a ton of history there. Marysville falls is also very nice . Oh and let’s not forget ice cream in the Platzl. Go play a round or to on one of our top notch golf courses. I could go on for days but I guess you will have to come to check it out for yourself.
I’M HUNGRY… WHERE SHOULD I GO TO FIX THIS REOCCURRING PROBLEM?
Well I’d say the easiest thing is park in the parking lot downtown and go for a stroll through the Platzl . Make sure you bring your appetite, it is all so good.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY AND YOUR TOP PLACE AROUND HERE FOR DOING THAT ACTIVITY?
My favourite thing to do is spend time with my family biking, hiking and walking through the Platzl. There is so much to see and do here, it seems there is not enough time in the day.
FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / LISTENING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / READING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Come to Kimberley, it is a great city . A great city to raise a family. Again there is truly so much here, you will have to come see it for yourself.
OK, ACTUAL FINALLY… ON OCTOBER 20TH, 2018 KIMBERLEY WILL BE HITTING THE POLLS TO VOTE FOR CITY COUNCIL AND YOU ARE ONE OF THE CANDIDATES, SO — IF YOU HAD TO CONDENSE YOUR RUNNING PLATFORM DOWN TO A PARAGRAPH OR TWO, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
I’d like to look at the future of Kimberley. Make sure that we are thinking ahead and not just about today, so our kids can enjoy our great city. Make sure that our tax payer dollars are being spent wisely and going in a positive direction for years to come. We have many tasks ahead of us. For me, I see our infrastructure needs to be built for growth. Kimberley is growing fast, it’s truly amazing to see all the new faces and businesses in town.
I would also like to see new business welcomed to town so we are self-sufficient, so to speak . With new business comes new jobs, more families and more kids. Our kids are our future and it would be nice if we take the proper steps and planing now so when it’s their turn they have a solid platform to build off.
In closing, I truly believe that Kimberley is the most unique, warm and happy town in the Kootenays, with a very bright future ahead of us.
