KYLE DALUM | MEET A LOCAL… CANDIDATE
POSTMARK: OCTOBER 2018
On October 20th, 2018 Kimberley will be hitting the polls (voting polls, not ski poles) to select their Mayor, City Councillors, and School Trustees. So before it’s time to cast your ballot—and before the upcoming All Candidates Forums for City Council on Oct 15 and Mayoral & School Trustees on Oct 16—how about we “MEET A LOCAL” these local candidates?
And on that note: City Council candidate Kyle Dalum metaphorically stops by the blog today to say "hey" and leave behind some tips for getting the most out of a life lived (or a visit visited) around Highway 95 eh.
WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?
My name is Kyle Dalum. I am a Jack of all trades and a master of none. Currently building my house with my own hands, going to school for a Masters in Dog Training, on the board of directors for Courageous Companions and a commitment to volunteerism while running to be a councillor.
WHY LIVE AROUND HIGHWAY 95 EH?
My reasons for being here are friends, family, culture and the area as a whole.
IF SOMEONE IS ONLY IN THE AREA FOR A FEW DAYS, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST OF MUST-DO’S?
Must do's for visitors are many and varied, there is certainly something for everyone. From the Memorial park to the mountain peak or the distillery and everything in between. I think you need more than a few days to discover all our amazing gems.
I’M HUNGRY… WHERE SHOULD I GO TO FIX THIS REOCCURRING PROBLEM?
For those few days or more there are an incredible variety of exceptional places to visit, the Nest and the Old Bauernhaus offer up scale dining, while the Pedal and Tap, Stonefire, Grubstake Pizza, Burrito Grill and the Buckhorn and Main offer family meals with solid menus for every pallet. For a laid back pub with a snack the Elks, The Shed, Marysville Pub, Over Time Beer and the Sullivan Pub have drinks to wet the whistle. Breakfast and coffee has just as many opportunities such as Our Place, the Bean Tree, Alpen Cafe, the Koffee Kan and the Timber Hitch. A personal favourite when the season allows is Nina's Hillside Garden. With so many options it's easy to forget other fantastic options.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY AND YOUR TOP PLACE AROUND HERE FOR DOING THAT ACTIVITY?
While having such a busy life at this time, my favourite activity is socializing with the members of of the community and that happens everywhere I go.
FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / LISTENING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / READING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Engage in your community, come out and get involved. We all have amazing things to contribute and share in nearly everything you can think of.
OK, ACTUAL FINALLY… ON OCTOBER 20TH, 2018 KIMBERLEY WILL BE HITTING THE POLLS TO VOTE FOR CITY COUNCIL AND YOU ARE ONE OF THE CANDIDATES, SO — IF YOU HAD TO CONDENSE YOUR RUNNING PLATFORM DOWN TO A PARAGRAPH OR TWO, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
My platform is based on open, honest, clear communication, this will be coupled with personal availability. Without party affiliation my goal is to make fact based decisions, while avoiding emotional knee jerk reactions to the issues brought before council. Living closer to city hall than many residents, but outside of city limits will allow me to assist every neighbourhood without concern of anyone believing that it is favouritism. We will continue to build this community together, engaging in sustainable growth and forward thinking while maintaining the community. Take the time to get to know me and show me what you believe.
