THE WEEKLY EH? (OCT 15 - OCT 21)

POSTMARK: OCTOBER 2018

It's Monday. Again. So, besides the usual highlighting of one good thing happening on each of the next 7 days, and besides the usual bunch of nice things to click on if you keep scrolling downwards (like a full event calendar with EVERYTHING happening on ALL DAYS + a bunch of nice blog posts) — this week you will also notice a couple reminders to get out and vote in the local elections happening on October 20th. Because it’s important to vote and it’s easy to forget.

It’s also important to try and get a good sense of who you are voting for, which is why 95EH has been running ‘MEET A LOCAL… CANDIDATE’ Q&As over the last few weeks (so far, 13 of the 19 candidates I was able to track down an email address for have sent back a completed Q&A) and also why the first 2 highlighted events are (spoiler alert) the All Candidates Forums. Happy election week!

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20th

In Concert with the Canadian Guitar Quartet | Our First Concert of the 2018-2019 includes the incredible Canadian Guitar Quartet.

Since its debut in 1999, the Canadian Guitar Quartet has toured extensively in North and South America, from one standing ovation to the next, establishing a reputation as one of the finest guitar ensembles in the world. They return to the Kootenays to play some original music that shows why audiences around the country enjoy their work so much. Concerto Tradicionuevo, by Patrick Roux is a Tango inspired feast for guitars and orchestra, and CGQ member Louis Trépanier’s La Madeleine du Saint-Laurent features timeless Canadian folk melodies. The fine musicians of the SOTK are featured in the timeless Concerto for Violin and Cello by Antonio Vivaldi. We round out the program with Postcards from the Sky by Marjan Mozetich. A hidden gem, this heartfelt music has very quickly become one of the most popular pieces ever written by a Canadian composer.

* Hosted by Symphony of the Kootenays
