RON MCRAE | MEET A LOCAL… CANDIDATE

POSTMARK: OCTOBER 2018

On October 20th, 2018 Kimberley will be hitting the polls (voting polls, not ski poles) to select their Mayor, City Councillors, and School Trustees. So before it’s time to cast your ballot—and before the upcoming All Candidates Forums for City Council on Oct 15 and Mayoral & School Trustees on Oct 16—how about we “MEET A LOCAL” these local candidates?

And on that note: School Trustee candidate Ron McRae metaphorically stops by the blog today to say "hey" and leave behind some tips for getting the most out of a life lived (or a visit visited) around Highway 95 eh.

“Aside from having a ‘hot grill friend’ here’s a little other information, especially for those folks who are new to Kimberley and area…”

“Aside from having a ‘hot grill friend’ here’s a little other information, especially for those folks who are new to Kimberley and area…”

WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am a retired college administrator, husband, father, and grandfather. I have been very involved in my community serving as Mayor for two terms, City Councillor one term, and two terms as a School Trustee (pre-amalgamation, School District 3).

WHY LIVE AROUND HIGHWAY 95 EH?

I live around here because I was lucky enough to be born here, raised here, and after years of education in Victoria, pulp mill work in Port Alberni, travelling the world, and teaching in Grand Forks, HERE is where I WANTED AND WANT to be. HERE is where my wife and I decided to raise our two daughters in this community that we knew would have a bright and prosperous future.

IF SOMEONE IS ONLY IN THE AREA FOR A FEW DAYS, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST OF MUST-DO’S?

If someone only has only a few days, I would encourage them to make an informed, personal choice by visiting the Tourism Kimberley Info Centre to learn of ALL that this wonderful City and area have to offer – they will be amazed!

I’M HUNGRY… WHERE SHOULD I GO TO FIX THIS REOCCURRING PROBLEM?

I would say that a re-occurring thirst and/or feeling hungry in Kimberley is no problem at all and that it is worth staying awhile to explore and enjoy the wide variety of Kimberley’s excellent food and beverage establishments.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY AND YOUR TOP PLACE AROUND HERE FOR DOING THAT ACTIVITY?

It is really tough to make a choice with so many fantastic possibilities, but if I must …. my choice is SKIING downhill at KAR or cross-country on our excellent KNC groomed, trails and the surrounding countryside.

FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / LISTENING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / READING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Spend more time reading and sharing your thoughts about what you have read with others around you.

OK, ACTUAL FINALLY… ON OCTOBER 20TH, 2018 KIMBERLEY WILL BE HITTING THE POLLS TO VOTE FOR SCHOOL TRUSTEE AND YOU ARE ONE OF THE CANDIDATES, SO — IF YOU HAD TO CONDENSE YOUR RUNNING PLATFORM DOWN TO A PARAGRAPH OR TWO, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?

I am running for a position as School Trustee on the Board of Education for Rocky Mountain School District #6. I believe that I have the skills, abilities, experience and knowledge to effectively serve as a school trustee. My experience as a former School Trustee, a Municipal Councilor and Mayor of Kimberley, and my professional experience as an educator/administrator over a span of 30 plus years, has provided me with the knowledge, skills and attributes to participate effectively at the School Board governance level. As well, I have been very involved in my community by volunteering and participating in clubs, organizations and boards that are important to seeing our community prosper.

ALRIGHT, THAT'S ALL THE Q'S AND A'S FOR THIS Q&A. Before you head off to some other corner of the internet, make sure to mark your calendar to attend the ‘All Candidates Forums’ for City Council on Oct 15 and Mayoral & School Trustees on Oct 16. and *most importantly* put a big circle around October 20th as that’s the day you get to cast your vote.

95EH will be attempting to run a Q&A with all the candidates before the upcoming election, so make sure to check back on the regular or follow on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram for updates.

AND, as always, IF YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN DOING A Q&A LIKE THIS YOURSELF (AS A PERSON OR AS YOUR BUSINESS/ORGANIZATION) OR IF YOU'D BE INTERESTED IN CONTRIBUTING / COLLABORATING ON SOMETHING ELSE 95EH, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND A "HEY!" TO:
