WASSSAAAAAAA LAKE | MOUNTOWN JOURNAL
ENTRY BY JEREMY/HI54LOFI | JULY 2016
When I was first told that Wasa Lake was "probably the warmest lake in the Kootenays", many questions filled my head. OK, maybe it was just one question: How warm are we talking about here?
Well, the answer turned out to be less 'warm' and much more 'pretty damn refreshing, once you get all the way in'. I guess the important 'no duh' thing to keep in mind here is that when talking about lake water, people don't hold the term 'warm water' to the same standards as when they're talking about baths (so if you're looking for that 'bath tub warm water' experience out in the wild, you'll need to trade the lake in for a hot spring).
Just a quick 25 minute drive from Kimberley, it's easy to see why Wasa Lake is such a hit with locals and visitors alike. The water temp is nice and the sandy beaches stretch out all along the lake, so you don't have to walk too far if you want to find a slightly more private/quiet section to lay your towel down. There's a few parking lots to choose from, so if one looks too crowded for your blood, try the next one. Plenty of public beach for everyone down at Wasa.
Here's a few pics from our first (but definitely not last) visit…
Added bonus for spending the day at Wasa: besides the beautiful beaches, water and mountain view surroundings (and usually a few bald eagle sightings) when people ask where you are going / where you've been, you can re-enact that old Budweiser commercial with a "Wasssssssaaaaaaaaaaaa".
And that's always fun, right?
